Word of mouth is the best kind of work, but you can't turn it up in a slow month. And the lead sites send the same homeowner to three or four other contractors, so you're bidding against them before you've even talked.

Short video ads fix both. A 20-second clip of a real basement going from bare concrete to a finished family room, shown to homeowners near you, with your name and number at the end. The person who calls is calling only you.

How it works

Tip: phone video makes the strongest ads, even 10 shaky seconds. Next job, film 10 seconds before you start and 10 seconds when you finish. That's an ad. Photos alone work too: I turn them into before-and-after reveals.

This is a 21-second example ad for a basement renovation: a question that stops the scroll, the work in progress, the finished room, then the contractor's name, phone number and "Get your free quote".

Yours is made from your own project photos and videos, with your company name and number at the end, and a voice-over if you want one. This example uses stock footage and music only, so you can see the style. It isn't a client project.

The founding price is for my first 3 renovation clients only. After that the Growth Plan is $1,297 a month. Prices in Canadian dollars. The money you spend on the ads themselves goes straight to Facebook and Google on your own card; it's not part of my fee. I suggest starting around $20 a day.

And I won't promise you a number of jobs. Ads bring attention and quote requests; how many become jobs also depends on your prices, your reviews, how fast you call back, and the season. Anyone who guarantees you jobs is guessing.
